Monument
Monument is a distinct material language within Glazed Landscape, defined by vertical forms, restrained monochrome surfaces and architectural compositions. Appearing across a series of sculptural vessels and columns, the collection explores a recurring vocabulary of structure, rhythm and quiet permanence.
Inspired by the weathered navigational marker that stands at the mouth of the Tweed Estuary, the works draw upon their stark vertical presence and the slow transformation brought about by tide, weather and time. Black linear divisions echo painted metal worn by decades of exposure, while fragmented crawling glazes recall the gradual accumulation of marine life, where natural growth steadily reclaims the built environment.
Standing alone or gathered in groups, the forms possess the quiet authority of landmarks within an imagined landscape. They speak of navigation, endurance and geological time, inviting contemplation of the subtle dialogue between human intervention and the persistent rhythms of the natural world.
