Lunar

The Lunar collection draws its name from a surface language shaped by cycles of freezing, thawing and renewal. Inspired by the winter ice formations that gather along the River Tweed estuary, the work reflects fleeting moments when rotating discs of ice accumulate, collide and slowly dissolve—temporary landscapes suspended between solid and liquid before returning once more to the river.

Appearing across a range of sculptural ceramic forms, Lunar develops a distinct material language through softly fractured glazes, crystalline textures and restrained monochrome surfaces. Raised and recessed layers evoke frozen pools, weathered ice and the quiet accumulation of natural forces, where movement, temperature and time leave their trace upon the landscape.

As with each collection within Glazed Landscape, Lunar is defined not by a particular vessel, but by its surface treatment. Light moves gently across the ceramic, revealing subtle shifts of texture and depth that change throughout the day. Ephemeral natural phenomena are distilled into enduring sculptural forms, inviting prolonged contemplation of processes that are ordinarily seen only briefly before they disappear.
