Iris
Iris is a distinct surface language within Glazed Landscape, defined by a fragmented cellular glaze that radiates across sculptural forms in expanding fields of pattern and light. Appearing across a range of vessels and sculptural objects, the collection explores a recurring material vocabulary through variations in scale, density and geometry.
Inspired by the intricate structures found in the natural world—from the radial complexity of the human iris to colonies of intertidal organisms that cling to weathered rock—the surfaces reveal patterns that exist simultaneously at biological and geological scales. The fragmented glaze evokes growth, erosion and quiet transformation, where countless individual elements combine to form a unified whole.
As light moves across the work, the raised ceramic surface continually changes in character, inviting close observation. What first appears graphic and ordered gradually reveals subtle irregularities and variations, reflecting the complex rhythms and structures that emerge throughout the natural world.
